A Hostile Environment
For the most part, television networks have
created what has become a hostile environment for the Creative Community.
We've had black lists, white lists,
supervisors, censors, program development departments run by prepubescents whose
fear of gray hair has disenfranchised some of the most experienced and creative
minds in the industry.
We have watched a never ending
procession of camels transfigured from the more recognizable thoroughbred under
committee rule.
We have watched innovation become
execrable and duplication, the precept.
Why would an industry, shaken by
economic reverses and fear of competition from a burgeoning field of
subscription television entertainment, want to inhibit, drive away, divert,
discommode or otherwise disenchant creative potential that has been responsible
for past years of successful effort?
Why?
Beats the shit outta me.
