Changing The Rules Of The Game

The process of producing television has changed in recent years. Not only is it more complex with executives requesting more involvement in various aspects of the shows, but the business is increasingly difficult. An independent producer has enough of a tough time selling, executing and pushing his or her product. A lot of one's excitement and joy in producing television comes from the entrepreneurial aspect -- the belief that in the end one may own at least a piece of something with long range fiscal potential. When the carrot is removed, the rules of the game change markedly and I believe, in the end, the process and the producer suffer.
